Meet Bill Childs

I’ve dedicated my career to understanding and using creativity and consider myself to be on a mission to guide people back to the creative power they wielded so effortlessly as children. As I see it, children are 'mini-geniuses' because they don't judge their thoughts and are not afraid to express them openly. When those two traits are missing in an adult, they tend to be guarded and not in touch with their childlike wonderment; this leads to fear and close-mindedness. I don’t live in that world. I view life through the lens of possibility coupled with large doses of optimism. As a collaborative mentor and champion of fearless creativity who celebrates and develops team talent, I’m not afraid to push a good idea into a great one, and I have a solid aversion to mediocrity. From an early age, I knew that my life's work would be in the creative realm, and this has brought me to roles as a graphic designer, layout artist, copywriter, marketing director, columnist, lecturer, and creative director.

As a lecturer and public speaker, I thrive on sharing my knowledge with the next generation. One of the major areas I love to present is how leadership styles affect a company's work culture, which I’ve observed countless times throughout my career. Whenever a culture of creativity was embraced, the work was always better, people were happier, and the company drove more revenue. Conversely, when creativity was not present, I saw the opposite occur. People were unsatisfied, the work suffered, the culture was oppressive, and the company struggled to meet revenue targets.

  • Bill is a rare breed of creative director in that he is completely capable of generating great creative work, but he also is comfortable and very effective working directly with customers. He “gets” the business side of the business, and communicates well with people at all levels in your customers’ businesses. In thirty years in the advertising business, I worked with many creative directors. Most could either effectively handle the customer interaction or generate great creative work, but not both. In fact, there were only two that I worked with that were exceptional at both ends of the business. Bill Childs has that gift.”

  • “Bill Childs is a bold, yet humble personality - a creative force that has it all together. He talks business and brand with ease. He can make a mountain from a sliver of information and loves a challenge. He is as passionate about his community and he is about his career. I don’t think Bill considers design and marketing a job, it’s his life.”

-Jane Heft, VP, Director Of Project Design & Corporate Branding, City Center Development Company

  • “Bill has been engaging students at DeSales University for almost 20 years. Students love his sense of humor, his empathy, and his inspirational presentations. Childs encourages students to take risks with their ideas, and to about things in ways they’ve never done before. Creative thinking is a key skill for the future that is often not addressed in education. Childs embodies all that is creative; he has inspired students to adapt, innovate and tap in to their amazing potential.”
